\u2018Seek and ye shall find\u2019, the expression goes. For me, that isn\u2019t quite true when it comes to t-shirts.<\/p>
What I tend to be looking for is something which is not easy to discern at first glance. The kind of abstract or close-to-abstract pieces which are subtle yet make you think \u201cWhat exactly is that?\u201d.<\/p>
I have a few such t-shirts, a fair number of which are unfortunately at the point of having seen better days.\u00a0Some have faded in a suitably funky way, leaving them still suitable for some social events.\u00a0However, if I want to look smart, then my choice is becoming somewhat limited.<\/p>
When I do a web search, most of what comes up doesn\u2019t really hit the mark for me. Occasionally come across a design I like but too often the provenance is questionable, so there is no guarantee you are getting something which is both stylish and giving due consideration to the environment or people\u2019s working conditions. All of this means I rarely end up making a purchase.<\/p>
I have an interest in design, photography and nature. I also paint a little.<\/p>
Then there\u2019s Teemill, which helps bring the whole thing together.\u00a0A great, ethical way to produce items such as t-shirts.<\/p>
So, if I seek and cannot find what do I do?\u00a0If I can paint a little and design a little.\u00a0If there is a ready way of turning my designs into a product.\u00a0Well, I really should have a go myself.<\/p>

When Doug first suggested that we design our own t-shirts, I was hesitant until I discovered that the\u00a0t-shirts would be sourced from Teemill.\u00a0When I buy a t-shirt, it is very important to me that it is made by workers who have safe and comfortable working conditions and are paid a proper wage, as well as using fabrics and dyes that are respectful to the planet.<\/p>
I absolutely love nature and I am thankful for all that it gives, whether in beauty, sustenance, or peace. I only garden in an organic and respectful way. One of my favourite flowers are roses. I have four roses and I let them grow in a very unconventional way compared to many gardeners.\u00a0As the seasons change, I start seeing dandelions, nettles and other pollen-producing plants all growing between my roses \u2013 and, yes, they all stay! They help bring in essential pollinators and provide habitats for lots of insects in the cooler weather.\u00a0I have the same values when growing vegetables too. My designs all come from nature, whether it\u2019s from the earth or the sky, each one with a unique abstract overlay.<\/p>

Collectively, the two of us (that\u2019s Doug and Yvette \u2013 see our individual introductions below) have talked several times over the years we have been together about starting a collaborative business. Up until now we have never quite made it a reality.<\/p>
In 2021 we decided it was time to be our own bosses. Out went our regular jobs, and in came our own individual projects to set up a business each. Work on these remains ongoing despite the inevitable ups and down, which is both encouraging and slightly concerning in equal measures. However, it does mean we have a little spare time, and the need for an additional source of income.<\/p>
So, we came up with Abstractish. Our intention is to come up with thoughtful, interesting designs, which will be either abstract in some way or approaching abstract - hence the \"...ish\" bit. Essentially, the sort of thing which is likely to initiate a conversation when seen.<\/p>
Reflecting our joint interests, our designs will primarily cover nature and the world around us, either based on original artwork or our own photos, then treated to make them distinctive.<\/p>
We suspect it\u2019s all going to be a bit of a journey. For those who are interested, design development and any other observations we come across we will look to document in the blog (see the link below).<\/p>

Overall, the aim of Abstractish is to create items that entertain the eye and cause thought. They may not all be truly abstract, but hopefully what each designs represent will not be completely obvious either.<\/p>
Think patterns, think swathes of bright colour, think objects or scenes reinterpreted.<\/p>
In terms of underlying values, this can be summarised as:<\/p>
